SON LA — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung yesterday urged authorities in northern mountainous Son La Province to strive to fulfil the 2012 socio-economic development plan to become a leading locality. The province has many mountains, rives and mineral sources. Abundant water supply is suitable to hydroelectricity. Moc Chau Plateau is an ideal place to breed milk cow, plant tea and fruit. Annual average temperature is about 21oC. The weather is cold, dry in winter and hot in summer. Little more than a road with a bunch of houses and shops on each side, it's all about the tea, here in Moc Chau, which thrives on the mountainous hillsides, and has put the town well and truly on the map — for tea fans at least. Remote and mountainous Son La province stretches along Vietnam's south-western border with Laos and is bisected by the Song Da river which flows down through the province eventually emptying into the large reservoir in Hoa Binh province. Son La belongs to North-West Vietnam, shares border with Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Lai Chau provinces on the north, Dien Bien Province on the west, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh provinces on the east and Laos on the south.
